Yala Peak Climbing Overview

The Yala Peak climbing program combines trekking in the Langtang Valley with a non-technical summit ascent. The full program runs for 12 days, starting and ending in Kathmandu. Participants drive to Syabrubesi before beginning the trail into the Langtang region.

The trek follows the Langtang Khola upstream, passing through forests and Tamang settlements. Key stops include Lama Hotel, Langtang Village, and Kyanjin Gompa. The Langtang Valley is one of Nepal's most accessible and scenic trekking corridors.

From Kyanjin Gompa, a rest and acclimatization day includes a day hike to Tsergo Ri at 4,984 m. This hike prepares climbers for the elevation gains ahead. Tsergo Ri offers views of the Langtang, Jugal, and Ganesh Himalayan ranges.

The climb to Yala Peak Base Camp at 4,800 m follows rocky glacier terrain. Summit day reaches 5,500 m, requiring crampons and an ice axe. The climb involves rope travel on snow slopes of approximately 30 degrees. The summit provides clear views into Tibet on clear days.

After the summit, the group descends to Kyanjin Gompa and retraces the trail to Syabrubesi for over two days. A final drive returns participants to Kathmandu. The program suits trekkers with good fitness and some previous high-altitude experience.

The group departs Kyanjin Gompa and heads toward Yala Peak Base Camp. The trail follows a rocky glacier route above Langtang Valley. The landscape transitions from alpine meadows to glacier moraine as altitude increases. Along the way, clear views of Ganchenpo, Naya Kang, Tsergo Ri, and Yala Peak itself are visible. The route is unmistakable on clear days due to the prominent position of Yala Peak ahead. The group sets up camp at Base Camp at 4,800 m. The evening includes a full briefing on summit day procedures, equipment uses, and emergency protocols.

The group departs Base Camp before dawn to begin the Yala Peak summit climb. The ascent follows snow slopes at an angle of approximately 30 degrees. Crampons and ice axes are required for safe progress. The group moves roped together for most of the glacier section. The climbing route is straightforward and suitable for those new to Himalayan mountaineering. The summit at 5,500 m offers panoramic views of the Langtang and Jugal Himalayan ranges. On a clear day, Shishapangma and other Tibetan peaks are visible across the border. After summiting, the group descends back to Base Camp and continues down the glacier trail. The trek continues to Kyanjin Gompa for overnight rest. The full day of climbing and descent takes approximately eight to ten hours.
